Last verified: 2026-10-13. Black Friday is Friday 27 November 2026 and Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November. Every dated platform change is in our ChatGPT Ads guide.
For Black Friday 2026, treat ChatGPT Ads as a capped test budget, not a primary channel. Launch by late October, build one ad group per gifting moment, put the offer in the 48-character copy line rather than the image, freeze structure a week before Thanksgiving, and decide in advance how you will judge it. Your BFCM revenue should still come from Meta, Google, email and retargeting.
This is the channel's first holiday season and no one has published Q4 auction data for it, so everything below is labelled reported, confirmed, or our assumption. LocalAds is not an OpenAI partner and does not place ads; we make the creative you upload.
The honest outlook
Trade coverage this month is sceptical, and it is worth reading before you budget. Modern Retail reported on 9 October that brands do not expect ChatGPT ads to move holiday sales much this year. Terence Einhorn of the measurement firm Measured, which partners with OpenAI, told the publication that "the equivalent to the cost-per-click on ChatGPT is around 6X of that on Google" and that "generally the results have been pretty bad", adding that this is unsurprising for a brand-new platform. He also said most ChatGPT-driven sales so far look non-incremental: brands paying for orders they would have got anyway. The same piece cites Sensor Tower counting over 1,400 unique advertisers in August.
The case for testing anyway is about where shoppers are going, not where the ad unit is today. Adobe forecasts $275.1 billion in US online holiday spend for November and December (up 6.7%) and expects AI traffic to US retail sites to rise 130% year on year (Retail Dive, 28 September). Gift shopping often starts as a brandless question, which is exactly where a Sponsored card sits. Einhorn's own framing is a "learning budget": you cannot know whether the channel works for you without using it.
So the brief is narrow: spend a fixed amount you are prepared to lose, learn which gifting conversations and squares get clicked, and carry that into 2027.
Who should test, and who should wait
Test if all of these are true:
- A conversion pixel is live, or the Shopify app is syncing your catalogue and pixel.
- People research your product before buying it as a gift.
- You can fund at least the daily minimum per campaign from late October to mid-December without touching your core channels.
Wait if any of these is true:
- You cannot launch before November. First-time learning in peak week happens at peak prices.
- You sell in a restricted vertical. Health, finance and legal are restricted, and some categories allowed in the US are not allowed elsewhere.
- Your account is new in South-East Asia. The seven markets opened on 23 September and no local billing currency appeared in the minimum spend table PPC Land checked on 24 September. Some new accounts are also reported to start on home-country targeting only. See ChatGPT Ads in Singapore and South-East Asia.
- Your Q4 runs on retargeting and email. ChatGPT is a new-customer channel.
- Your product is low-ticket with no bundle. At several dollars a click, small orders cannot pay for themselves.
Not sure your market is open? The country list currently covers 63 markets. Ads only show to logged-in adults on the Free and Go tiers.
How to judge the test
Set these before launch, not after Cyber Monday.
- A hard cap. For example, one campaign at $50 a day from 26 October to 13 December is about $2,450. Pick the number you are willing to write off as research.
- The question. "Which gifting conversations click, at what cost" is answerable in six weeks. "Is ChatGPT profitable for us" is not.
- New-customer rate. Given the non-incrementality concern, check what share of attributed orders came from people who had never bought from you.
- A post-purchase survey. Add "ChatGPT" to "how did you hear about us". Crude, but better than platform attribution alone.
- Net, not gross. Judge after the returns window closes in January.
Week-by-week timeline to Cyber Monday
| Week | Dates (2026) | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 14 to 18 Oct | Go or no-go. Check eligibility, pixel events, product review status and landing page crawl access. |
| 1 | 19 to 25 Oct | Make creative: 2 squares per gifting moment, titles, copy lines, holiday copy variants. |
| 2 | 26 Oct to 1 Nov | Launch on evergreen gifting angles, CPC bidding, at or near the daily minimum. |
| 3 | 2 to 8 Nov | Read click-through by ad group. Cut the weaker square in each group. Add Black Friday context hints. |
| 4 | 9 to 15 Nov | Early-deal pages live. Feed prices accurate. Raise budgets on winners, within your cap. |
| 5 | 16 to 22 Nov | Swap copy to offer lines. Last structural change. |
| 6 | 23 to 30 Nov | Thanksgiving 26 Nov, Black Friday 27 Nov, Cyber Monday 30 Nov. Copy edits only. |
| 7 | 1 to 19 Dec | Green Monday 14 Dec, USPS cut-offs 17 to 19 Dec, Super Saturday 19 Dec. Deadline copy. |
Week 0: four checks
- Eligibility. Your registered and billing entity must be in an open market. Where ads serve is separate targeting.
- Measurement. Place a test order and confirm it lands as a conversion. Pick an attribution window (7, 14 or 30-day click, available since 16 September per StubGroup) and keep it all season.
- Product review. For feed campaigns, the Products tab shows per-item review status and rejection reasons (reported from 30 September). Rejected products do not appear in ads, so fix them now.
- OAI-AdsBot access. OpenAI documents a crawler that is "used to validate the safety of web pages submitted as ads on ChatGPT" (OpenAI crawler docs). If robots.txt, bot protection or a sale-week queue page blocks it, your landing page may fail review.
Ad groups per gifting moment
Structure by the situation in the conversation, not by product category:
- Gift for someone specific: brother, partner, parents, Secret Santa.
- Occasion: weddings (peak season in India and much of South Asia runs through November and December), hosting, housewarming.
- Deal and stock-up: "is it worth buying before Black Friday", multi-packs.
- Self-gifting: replacing a worn-out favourite.
Each group gets its own context hints, square and landing page. Context hints are not exact-match keywords, and no specific prompt is guaranteed. Where your setup supports negative phrases, use a few to keep a group off the wrong intent. Mechanics are in how to create ads for ChatGPT.
Catalogue sellers should also run product feed campaigns: bulk creation from a feed template was reported from 30 September, and virtual try-on only shows brands with active feed campaigns. See ChatGPT shopping ads and your product feed.
Budgets, bids and pacing
- Daily minimum: $25 a day per campaign in the US, with ten billing currencies down to INR 725, per the table PPC Land reported on 21 August. Full breakdown in how much ChatGPT ads cost.
- CPC first. The recommended starting maximum CPC was reported at $3 to $5 when CPC bidding launched in May. CPMs are cited between roughly $18 and $65 by topic; at Similarweb's reported 0.50% CTR, a $60 CPM is about $12 a click. CPC caps the downside while you learn.
- Conversion optimisation later. Impression-billed conversion optimisation became generally available on 16 September (reported). Only switch once your pixel has recorded real purchases.
- Pacing. Daily budgets were reported to have become seven-day averages in late July. Our reading, not a published rule: a budget raised on Thanksgiving morning may not show up as proportionally more spend on Black Friday. Raise budgets in week 4 or 5, and assume CPMs rise into BFCM, as on every auction platform.
Holiday offers in 24 and 48 characters
The card supplies its own title (16 to 24 characters) and copy line (32 to 48). So do not bake "50% OFF" into the square. It renders small, duplicates the copy field, and forces a new image every time the offer changes. Keep the square clean and edit the copy line as the deal moves from early access to Black Friday to Cyber Monday.
| Field | Example | Characters |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Gift-Ready Oud Set | 18 |
| Title | Limited Holiday Drop | 20 |
| Copy | Two bottles for AM and PM. Black Friday price. | 46 |
| Copy | Cyber Monday only: free gift wrap on orders | 43 |
| Copy (too long) | Huge Black Friday Sale, Up To 50% Off Everything Sitewide! | 58 |
The copy must match the landing page and, for feed campaigns, the live feed price.
Three angles, shown with real cards
These are real ads from the LocalAds ChatGPT Ads studio. We do not know whether any of them ran and make no claims about performance.
Scarcity

A real ad made in the LocalAds ChatGPT Ads studio for Comet: the square, title and copy line are unedited output generated from the product page. The conversation is our mockup, not a live placement.
"Limited" suits a sneakerhead gift: the buyer fears giving something the recipient already owns. But read the copy as a gift buyer. "All sales are final" is honest, and it is exactly what someone buying for another person's feet worries about. For a gifting group we would test a variant that leads with sizing help.
Occasion

Made in the LocalAds ChatGPT Ads studio for Bellavita. Image, title and copy are generated from the product page and left as they came out; the chat around the card is illustrative only.
Occasion questions carry a deadline. The box beside the bottle answers "is it gift-ready" without a word on the image.
Bundle and stock-up

Plum's 2-pack ad, straight out of the LocalAds ChatGPT Ads studio with no edits to image or copy. The question and answer above it are a mockup we wrote.
"Should I buy before Black Friday" is a real pattern for consumables. The two-pack answers it visually and lifts order value, which matters when clicks cost several dollars.
After Cyber Monday
- December gifting. Move context hints from deals to deadlines ("arrives before Christmas"). USPS lower-48 cut-offs are reported as 17 December for Ground Advantage, 18 for Priority and 19 for Priority Express (Value Added Resource); put yours in the copy line and update it.
- Gift cards and digital products take over after shipping cut-offs.
- Returns season. Read the test on net revenue in January, after refunds.
- Other calendars. Gulf White Friday sales run in late November, and Ramadan is expected to begin around 8 February 2027: see ChatGPT Ads in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
What to do this week
Decide go or no-go by Friday and write down the cap. If it is a go, confirm the pixel, allow OAI-AdsBot, fix rejected products and make squares for a 26 October launch. FAQ
Are ChatGPT Ads worth running for Black Friday 2026? As a capped test, for brands with conversion tracking and a product people research as a gift. Not as a primary channel: Modern Retail reported on 9 October that brands expect little holiday impact, with one measurement executive putting effective CPCs at around 6x Google's.
How much should I spend on ChatGPT Ads this holiday season? A fixed amount you are prepared to treat as research, set before launch. One campaign at $50 a day from late October to mid-December is about $2,450. The reported floor is $25 a day per campaign in the US.
When should I launch ChatGPT Ads for BFCM? The week of 26 October, which leaves three to four weeks of learning before you freeze structure around 20 November.
Should I use CPC or CPM bidding for Black Friday? Start on CPC to cap each click while you learn, then move to conversion optimisation once your pixel has real purchases.
Can I put "50% off" on my ChatGPT ad image? You can, but you should not. The card has its own copy field, the image renders small, and a baked-in discount means remaking the image every time the offer changes.
How do I know if my holiday ChatGPT test worked? Judge it on the question you set (which conversations and squares get clicked, at what cost), the share of new customers among attributed orders, a post-purchase survey, and net revenue after returns, not on platform-reported ROAS in Cyber Week.
