ChatGPT ad specs at a glance
A ChatGPT Sponsored card has five parts: a square image, a short title, one line of copy, your advertiser name with a small favicon, and a landing URL. OpenAI's campaign guidance gives 16 to 24 characters for the title and 32 to 48 characters for the copy. The image is a 1:1 square, 256x256 pixels at minimum, with around 512x512 as the practical target, in JPG, PNG, or WEBP.
You will find guides quoting 50 and 100 characters. Those look like what the Ads Manager form accepts, not what the card displays. Writing to the shorter range is the safe choice: nothing gets cut off mid-word on a phone.
How to write a ChatGPT ad that gets clicked
A ChatGPT ad appears next to an answer the user asked for, so it competes with the answer, not with a feed. The card works best when it continues the conversation: if someone asked for the best cold brew method, a title like "Cold brew in 60 seconds" lands, while a brand slogan does not.
Use the title for one sharp claim and the copy for the proof or the offer. Keep text out of the image. The card already carries your words, so the image should simply show the product, clean and legible at thumbnail size.
What this checker tests
Title and copy length against the display ranges, counted the way a reader sees characters, so an emoji counts once. Image aspect ratio, pixel size, file format, and file weight. Whether the landing URL is a valid HTTPS address. Warnings mean the ad will run but may display poorly; failures mean fix it before you upload.
The preview is an approximation built from public screenshots and OpenAI's documentation, not an official renderer. Always confirm in Ads Manager's own preview before launch.
Frequently asked questions
What are the ChatGPT ad character limits?
OpenAI's guidance is 16 to 24 characters for the title and 32 to 48 characters for the copy. The Ads Manager form may accept longer text, but the Sponsored card is built for the shorter range.
What image size do ChatGPT ads use?
A 1:1 square image, at least 256x256 pixels, with around 512x512 pixels recommended. JPG, PNG, and WEBP are accepted. Keep text out of the image, because the card supplies its own title and copy.
What does a ChatGPT ad look like?
It appears as a card labelled Sponsored, shown alongside a ChatGPT answer. The card has a square image, your brand name and favicon, a short title, and one line of copy that links to your landing page. Type your own text above to see a mockup.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The preview reads your image in the browser to measure it and draw the card. Nothing is sent to a server.
Where do I create ChatGPT ads?
In OpenAI's self-serve Ads Manager at ads.openai.com. Availability depends on your market, so check the current country list before you plan a launch.
